Up Your Personal Brand Game - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Up Your Personal Brand Game - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career I was perusing an article today about the two tech mammoths Google and Microsoft. The article concentrated on how Microsoft might be situating itself to make a play in the profoundly serious pursuit commercial center. Predominance and tirelessness Google was alluded to as having market predominance. Microsoft was alluded to as having tirelessness. Unmistakably, the article was alluding to piece of the pie and market position. I began considering how these words could be applied to individual marking: Brand Dominance Market predominance is a proportion of the quality of a brand comparative with serious contributions. Market pioneers are brands with plainly characterized character. The brand character is the picked character that best imparts the brand recommendation to the intended interest group. It isn't the character of the intended interest group, the character is well on the way to draw their consideration, intrigue them, and urge them to make a move and purchase the brand. The powerless brands in any market segment are those with dubiously characterized brand qualities. Brand Perseverance Brands that are supported unrivaled entertainers are those that keep up a higher than normal piece of the overall industry over an all-encompassing time span. These brands are supposed to be predominant industrious entertainers on the grounds that their presentation perseveres. By one way or another they remain over the crowd. Such brand persistence, notwithstanding hindrances, can give consolation to mark supporters. Applying this to individual marking I like what Gill Corkindale offers in her Harvard Business School blog 11 Tips for Creating Your Personal Brand. Here are four focuses I think fit in with the idea of strength and diligence as they would help you up your own marking game : Gain from the enormous brands. Recognize what makes you particular from the opposition. What have you done as of late to make yourself stick out? What might your associates or your clients state is your most noteworthy quality? Construct and deal with your advertising system. Your companions, associates, customers, and clients are a significant promoting vehicle for your image. What is said about you will decide the estimation of your image. Figure out how to impact. Utilize your own capacity, your job and your system. Be that as it may, use them delicately and astutely, or, in all likelihood you won't be viewed as a sound or dependable pioneer. Make yourself noticeable. Fabricate your profile inside and remotely. Approaches to do this incorporate systems administration, pursuing prominent tasks, exhibiting your abilities in introductions or workshops, composing for inward or outer distributions, chipping in for councils or board conversations at a gathering. By the day's end, a brand is a guarantee. Ensure your own image guarantee can convey by considering the stuff to command and continue on. What to do When a Client Isnt Calling You Back - Spark Hire
What to do When a Client Isnt Calling You Back - Spark Hire Having a customer drop off the substance of the earth isn't an inconceivable circumstance in recruiting. However, on the off chance that this is transpiring consistently, at that point there is something you have to change in your procedure with regards to the selection representative customer relationship. While reevaluating your relationship building process with your customers, consider 4 key reasons why your customer may have quit speaking with you. 1. You Didn't Set the Right Expectations It's significant at an early stage in the process that you and the customer set up away from of how your organization will work. Setting up week by week calls to catch up on submitted competitors or any adjustments in the activity prerequisites is an essential piece of your expert connection with your customers. Ensure that there is a reasonable comprehension among you and your customer on how the procedure will function and how regularly you will impart (just as HOW you will convey). 2. The Opening isn't Real In the event that this is another customer or a customer that you have not had such an extraordinary involvement in previously, don't be shocked in the event that they just revealed to you they had an opening so as to just end the discussion with you. In some cases an employing supervisor will give you a fake activity request to make sure you will quit calling him! You can maintain a strategic distance from these circumstances by screening out each employment request you get before you start investing energy in it. Ask the correct inquiries when you have the employing administrator's ear. Make sure that he comprehends that you won't just accept a composed position portrayal from him and select without a passing discussion about the kind of applicant he is searching for. 3. You Talked to the Wrong Person Maybe the individual you talked with about the activity request wasn't the real choice maker. This isn't inconceivable and really happens more regularly than you would think. When this occurs, a ton of times the individual you talked with is too humiliated to even think about calling you back and reveal to you that he was an inappropriate individual. In any case, as a talented spotter, it's significant that you know who you are taking work request from and comprehend what their job is in the employing choice. By and by, ensure you are posing the correct inquiries as it so happens and never settle for conversing with anybody other than the key leader with regards to employing for the position. 4. You're making a Bad Showing Now and then it just comes down to the basic reality that you're not doing a decent job. If you're not catching up with your customers from the get-go in the process with refreshes on the competitor search, they have likely proceeded onward and are investing energy with an enrollment specialist who keeps the line of correspondence open all through the whole procedure. On the off chance that you are basically sending resumes of up-and-comers with no genuine introductions or audits dependent on your evaluation of the up-and-comers, at that point the customer has lost regard for you. Perhaps the applicants you have submitted simply aren't anyplace near hitting the mark. It's dependent upon you to pose the correct inquiries from the get-go all the while so you can make certain to hit the objective with your competitors. Being an enrollment specialist isn't easy. Your customers have depended you with their employment opportunities since you have the mastery and information with regards to chasing down the privilege talent. When you slack off and don't live up to their desires, there is minimal possibility that your calls and messages will be returned. What are some different reasons why your customer isnt getting back to you back?

4 Ways Career Services Can Prep Students Grads - Workology
4 Ways Career Services Can Prep Students Grads - Workology 4 Ways Career Services Can Prep Students Grads Colleges and universities are working hard to find new ways to engage, embrace, and educate students on the how tos surrounding finding a job. Ã I was humbled to be asked to attend Oklahomas Association for Career and Employment Services (called OKACE) as a speaker. Ã Its no secret that the job search is tough these days and uber competitive. Ã A career service department is working hard to do just that. 4 Ways Career Services Can Prep Students Grads There were many topics, discussions, and conversations surrounding the future of employment services and how companies and universities can work together. Ã I feel this is key in teaching our future employees and recent graduates especially since communication is of the essence. Ã The overwhelming response from the audience was that communication was important and the number current challenge. Ã With the increase of texting, twitter, and social media as a increasingly popular form of communication. Ã According to Career Services, the fine art of face to face communication is being lost. Communication. In the business word this is essential. Ã The written word can be interpreted so many different ways and in this electronic word face to face interaction is even more important. Ã Career Service departments and Universities should provide additional training and instruction on how and why verbal communication is a must. Ã This could be in the form of company testimonials or workshops. Ã This is a problem that is not going away and by working together we can help to provide mentorship and examples of how and why communication is important. Leveraging Social Media. This is becoming a must in our new media world. Ã The concept of social recruiting is becoming an important topic among recruiters and businesses who are looking to adapt to the world of FaceBook Twitter. Ã Companies like Best Buy are no longer relying on job boards and traditional forms of advertisements using social media and texting to drive candidates to apply for openings. Ã Social Media is more than just a FaceBook Like Page and Twitter. Ã Its about engagement and being available to your audience whenever and wherever they are. Ã Social Media does that. Twitter Lists. The University of Oklahoma Career Services department shared with me that companies are asking students to engage them on Twitter and follow them to learn about jobs and internships instead of advertising openings with colleges and job boards. Ã Career Services can help educate students on this new media world while also encouraging them to engage companies on social media through Twitter lists. Ã Career Services can create lists and categorize companies and jobs using this tool allowing for students to easily follow companies with the click of a mouse. The Real World. The University and College system does not always mirror reality for students and university employees. Ã I encourage Career Service departments to get out there and experience the work environment of both the private and public sectors. Ã This could include attending events and groups outside of the traditional norm, job or company shadowing and having a constant and open dialogue with companies and businesses. Ã This includes speaking with hiring managers, human resource professionals, line managers, resume writers, and everyone associated with the hiring and decision making process. Ã These conversations although they seem time consuming are key in helping CS evaluate if they are meeting the needs of the student and business populations in which they serve.

Are You Committing Job Search Sabotage
Are You Committing Job Search Sabotage Are You Committing Job Search Sabotage If somebody somehow managed to ask you, you may impartially express that you're a tenacious activity searcher. You connect with organizations to check whether they're recruiting, your resume and introductory letter are on point, and you even apply to numerous situations every day. Things being what they are, the reason would you say you aren't landing more position offers? Is it accurate to say that you are submitting quest for new employment harm? Odds are, you may be-and not understand it. Here are a few different ways you may be submitting pursuit of employment damage: You apply for positions you're not equipped for. You saw a vocation posting for a place that completely shouted your name. Thing is, you don't generally have all the abilities important for the activity. You go after the job at any rate, trusting that you'll move beyond the Applicant Tracking System (ATS). No stunner: you don't. Going after positions that you're not equipped for is an exercise in futility. While there is unquestionably a specific measure of preparing and learning related with new openings, those sets of responsibilities are there which is as it should be. They're there to inform you as to whether you have the stuff to apply. On the off chance that you don't, as much as you may need the activity, it's ideal to search for another activity that you are equipped for. You react at wrong occasions. You at long last hear over from an expected business for work you truly need. You're at the recreation center with your children, and you accept the call in any case. Out of sight, your manager to-be hears kids shouting and your little child revealing to you that he's gotta go pee. As anxious as you are to react to a business' call or voice message, ponder the planning of your discussion. Is it accurate to say that you are in an area that is tranquil and liberated from interferences? Do you have patchy cell administration? Provided that this is true, hold up until you can have the ideal conditions to banter with the recruiting administrator so you look as expert as could be expected under the circumstances. Youre a little too genuine. You have a rundown of 14 employments you applied for, arranged by the amount you need them. So when work #12 tags along and offers you the position, you tell the employing director that you truly need to work for another organization and that you'll accept the position for the time being. Managers need to feel uncommon. They need to feel as though you need to work for their organization and their organization as it were. So when you educate them regarding your arrangements (e.g., you're just taking this activity to cover the tabs or utilizing it as a venturing stone), it very well may be offending to them. In the event that you need the activity and figure you can dedicate the time and vitality that it merits, at that point take the position, however don't cause your likely manager to feel seriously on account of your dull trustworthiness. You dont do your research. You've been going after such a significant number of positions with an end goal to facilitate your pursuit of employment that you've sort of forgot about all the positions you've sent your request for employment in to. So when you're at last situated before a likely chief, you guiltlessly ask, Let me know, what is your job here in the organization? Perhaps the greatest approaches to pass up going in daze. That is, not comprehending what the organization does, the individual you're meeting with (i.e., their name, title, and time span at the organization), and the position you're applying for. Do some burrowing before the meeting so you're totally arranged. You attempt to know everything. As a forthcoming worker, you need to show that you're the unparalleled individual for the position. That is the reason you answer each question certainly and rapidly, and even right your questioner when he says something erroneously. Let's be honest: no one prefers a smarty pants, particularly a possible boss. While you should show how brilliant you are, everything you'll do is likely irritate the person in question. Your job during a prospective employee meeting is to attempt to build up an association with your questioner and feature every one of your abilities, instruction, and past work experience that would make you a counterpart for the activity. What's more, that is it. It's anything but difficult to submit quest for new employment damage without acknowledging it. Be aware of these tips, and you'll have the option to have a fruitful quest for new employment sans harm! Perusers, have you been submitting quest for new employment harm? Tell us what occurred in the remarks beneath!

Now and again it can appear as if everybody you know is getting pregnant and beginning a family. In the event that youre anything like me, a youthful grown-up lady who doesn't need youngsters, you may discover your choice not to have children widely addressed by everybody from relatives to companions. At times the scrutinizing prepares for deferential conversation. Different occasions, its breaks down into inactive forceful discourse generally from ladies with kids who assume that their position is the privilege one.But you would make such an extraordinary mom!You know, your life doesnt start until you have children. What, precisely, is the end game to conti nue disgracing ladies with these remarks? Extremely, the main thing you feel a short time later is blame stumbled. You feel awful about your way of life, decisions and the heading you picked throughout everyday life. That is horrible quality of life! I asked a couple of expert ladies to share the most exceedingly awful things individuals state when they discover they dont need children, and how they react. One brisk tip: dont express any of these things to ladies... ever.1. Dont you need a family?Meredith Castin is a physical specialist and organizer of The Non-Clinical PT. She is hitched, has felines and is turning 40 this year. Castin is childfree by decision. However, she is regularly posed this inquiry when individuals discover that she doesn't have children.Castin is stunned by this inquiry since she as of now has a cherishing family.I every now and again travel to see my folks and sister, which requires a crosscountry flight, Castin said. On the off chance that I had children, I wouldnt get the opportunity to consider my to be as often.Castin brings up that being sans kid permits her to be available for her maturing guardians. This is a huge need to her.I can truly concentrate on keeping up close binds with my folks and sister, despite the fact that we dont live near each other.2. Youll change your mind.Life mentor Kourtney Thomas cannot think about a remark that gets under her skin more than this one. At 35, she continually gets little burrows even from outsiders online concerning why she will be sorry one day about her decision not to have children.Thomas refers to two basic suppositions as the reasons why this remark makes her so disappointed. The primary supposition that will be that she is obviously unequipped for settling on her own way of life choices. The second is that happiness and satisfaction can apparently just be found through motherhood.Ultimately, its inconceivably rude to expect that my decisions aren't right a result of your perspective and refusal to consider my to be as substantial, she said.3. I trust you have an infant anyway.Yoga educator Lauren Holmes Larry is hitched and childfree. She flawlessly brings an end to companionships with companions that make statements like this. Its absolutely belittling, she said. It disregards my own desires and tells me they dont have my eventual benefits at heart.4. At some point, youll need to pick between your profession and a family.Perhaps one of the most upsetting reactions I heard was from Jessica Gardiner, author and EIC of The Assistant Room. Gardiner is the author of her own business, yet winds up continually told that one day she should pick between her work or having a family. At almost 30, Gardiner battles to perceive how individuals can't see that, to her, having a family is an individual choice.Being uncertain to them at my age is totally stunning, she said. Im even normally told that I should be appreciative that I have an accomplice who has a steady vocation t o take care of me when I choose to have youngsters without them in any event, knowing whether I need kids or not!Gardiner reacts by pursuing the more responsible option and remaining concentrated on her business.I need to concentrate on building the business I emptied my essence into. I am glad for what I have achieved up until this point, I needn't bother with anybody to take care of me, and I dont need a family to feel as if I have accomplished something in my life.

If itâs been a while, thereâs a chance your old suit is too big, too small, or outdated. Stop by a department store when there are sales (and no pressure on you to get a suit quickly). When you do find one, consider taking it to a tailor. Ensuring your pants are hemmed to the correct length and your jacket fits properly can make your relatively inexpensive suit look like âa million bucks.â Get business cards â" Especially if you donât have a business card at work, this is a great time to get them. The same advice goes for those who are looking to dramatically change career paths. A business card not connected to your current career is helpful. At a minimum, include your name, phone number, and e-mail address. You can order them online from many sites like GotPrint.com, or in person at an office store like FedEx. They typically cost less than $50, and can really make the difference when youâre meeting someone new. Attend networking events â" The number one way to find a new job is networking. If youâve been at your current job for more than a few years, you may be a little disconnected from your old network. Nowâs the time to get out, see your old connections, and pass out your new business cards. Whatever you do, remember that youâre not alone. Many folks are in the same boat with you, waiting for the storm to pass. Following these steps will prepare you to find a job when you finally get that 2013 bonus payout. Brighter skies are on their way, so take advantage of this time and prepare yourself. I hope these tips have helped you. Visit CopelandCoaching.com to find more tips to improve your job search. From Old Trafford Kiosk Attendant to University Admin Assistant Presenting part-time jobs on your CV University of Manchester Careers Blog
From Old Trafford Kiosk Attendant to University Admin Assistant Presenting part-time jobs on your CV From guest writer and former Careers Service MGP, Jenny Sloan. So youve managed to bag a few hours every week working in an administrative post in an office? Thats fantastic, youve got essential office-based work experience that employers value so highly! But what if, like the majority of the working student body, youre slaving away in a cafe, shop or bar at the weekends or holidays? Part-time work is essential in order for most of us to be financially stable during university, but often we underestimate the importance of promoting this work on our CVs. The majority of students assume that unless youre trying to break into the hospitality or retail sector, this kind of part-time work is irrelevant to your graduate job search. This is totally false. Every experience can be made relevant (as Bryony and Toby said earlier!). Its all about dissecting your work experience and picking out key examples to provide evidence on your applications that you have the essential skills the employer is looking for. I had my fair share of part-time jobs before graduating from university, and each of them have enabled me to develop the essential skills needed for the job Im in now. Of course, a part-time role in an office would have been perfect as it would have provided me with important office-based work experience and administrative skills. However its not exactly easy to find an employer who would put up with me taking a month off at Christmas and three during the summer. Instead I worked for 6 years both as a Sales Assistant in an independent craft shop and as a waitress in an American diner during the school and university holidays. During semester time I also worked as a Kiosk Assistant, glamorously selling beer and hotdogs at Old Trafford. I didnt (and still dont) want to pursue a graduate career in hospitality or retail, but these roles did provide me with transferable skills that I would not have gained otherwise: Commitment: My dedication to the businesses I worked for proved impressive to many employers. Ability to work effectively under pressure: Like the time I had to stay calm and simultaneously apologise profusely to a customer after she complained that her chips were cold, and the chef fired the till across the cafe in anger. Conflict resolution: I worked in the away stand at Old Trafford. Need I say more? Communication: Working in hospitality and retail, you come across a wide variety of customers, each with individual needs and personalities. This allows you to learn how to adapt your communication styles to suit your audience. Teamwork: Likewise, when you work in one of the above sectors where the staff turnover can be very fast, you learn to adapt your working style to suit the different people you work with on each shift. Task delegation: Like organising who would deal with customers and who would sit in the back with their earphones in cleaning cutlery after the staff Christmas party. No matter where you work or what youre doing, youll always gain something from it. The key is decipher what skills you have and have examples ready to back them up. What Happens When You Analyze Sand?
<h1>What Happens When You Analyze Sand?</h1><p>An fascinating contention on the impact of the pursuit of employment by the Wisconsin Dells - an away from of the strategy to be applied trying to anticipate which result is better - is 'The thing that Happens When You Analyze Sand?' by Michael Folker.</p><p></p><p>Important is that one understands that this activity, notwithstanding being the most significant, isn't the most testing one; hence, there is space for battling. It is critical to perceive that even the best of workers will be overpowered and exhausted with all the necessary errands of keeping up a business. A pursuit of employment ought to include looking at, in detail, the consequences of comparable worker instructional classes, where the representatives are likewise expected to compose an exposition about the conditions encompassing the promotion.</p><p></p><p>The truth that the investigation is finished by p eople wearing suits in a research center doesn't make it any less logical - an incredible opposite. Consequently, the standards talked about are practically identical to those of funny cartoons. Inventiveness and creative mind can really improve a man's outcomes. Each part of a procedure is incorporated by the rule of vital versus sufficient.</p><p></p><p>Another thing to hold up under at the top of the priority list is that the segment investigation of residue and sand particles, which permits a total depiction of them, is material to numerous different kinds of information. A couple of instances of such things as photos, standardized identifications, or Google look are very appropriate, and positively this technique ought not be excused. One should look for exhortation from proficient researchers so as to apply this technique in deciding achievement in the quest for employment.</p><p></p><p>In expansion, the creator has seen two rend itions of an announcement of 'What Happens When You Analyze Sand?' in enlivened structure. To the writer's psyche, these renditions seem as though they were taken from the drawings in the funny cartoon, and the ends that are drawn don't strike any kind of likeness to any logical method.</p><p></p><p>To the writer's reasoning, some time has gone since he previously read about 'What Happens When You Analyze Sand,' and regardless of whether there was a lot of new data accessible at the hour of its distribution, it would not be astonishing that the examination of sand particles would have changed to some degree from that point forward. Unquestionably, the equivalent applies to the investigations of paper and TV commercials, which are gotten from distributed reports on explicit things.</p><p></p><p>The reality that most of these site design improvement organizations should enlist a gathering of people who as of now comprehend what happens w hen you break down sand, is unexpected no doubt. The majority of these individuals as of now have advanced educations in logical research, or on the off chance that they don't, they are likely not required to work at an organization like Google, Microsoft, as well as Yahoo!</p><p></p><p>To be reasonable, this site has no immediate association with the realistic novel entitled 'What Happens When You Analyze Sand?' - I simply trust that it is an engaging method to depict information and how it applies to things, for example, continue composing and marketing.</p>

Resume Writing Tips - The Importance of Handouts
Resume Writing Tips - The Importance of HandoutsIn a world of resume writing tips and tricks, nothing is easier than handouts. After all, without the ability to read people, you can't communicate effectively. Handouts are so much easier because they are made specifically for a human reader, so you can read and respond at the same time.Your resume and cover letter needs to be the only materials provided to a potential employer, and that is your only chance of making a good impression. You do not want to look like you're trying to make it to the next round. People will notice the fact that you're trying to sell yourself on paper, but if you leave it up to them, they won't take you seriously. This is where having a handout or two provides the opportunity to be better than any other form of communication. Now there is nothing wrong with using handouts to prepare for a job interview. If the timing is right, handouts can be quite effective at giving you the details you need to give a great presentation. Your future employer will see what you are passionate about, what your interests are, and the kind of work you are looking for. You may even have some things you are willing to share that others might not know about, which could really help. If the timing is right, you will also come across as organized and prepared.Of course, you may not want to give away all of the things you are working on. The best way to keep things interesting is to provide several different things you are researching for or already have. Have a handout or two that show you have done a little bit of research about each topic. With such handouts, you can relate your information to previous work that you have done in that field. Using this method, you can impress the reader, and they will give you the benefit of your research as well.If you get them excited about what you are doing for them, it will help your resume appear more polished and professional to the potential employer. Just because you h ad a handout, does not mean it cannot be an impressive resume. A handout can be as impressive as a resume if it is designed properly. It is not always enough to simply have a handout or two; the content and the tone should be just as impressive. When you find the right handout, it will take some imagination to come up with something exciting to use in your resume. If you have something to share, you may have to use a light-hearted, humorous style or use some colorful language. It will make it far more interesting to the reader and will not take away from the professionalism of your resume. The easiest way to keep the format of your resume well organized is to plan out each section before the writing begins. When you begin your resume writing, remember to be clear and precise in your copy, and to make sure the next paragraph you write focuses on the areas that are important to you. Once you have been assured of the level of professionalism you are achieving with your resume, your job i s only half done.If you continue to master the skill of resume writing and memorizing important information, a handout will always have the potential to add to your resume. Remember to put a little effort into your handout, and you can be sure that it will stand out as one of the most effective resume writing tips available.

Personal Branding Interview Steve Miller - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Personal Branding Interview Steve Miller - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke with Steve Miller, who is a marketing consultant, speaker and blogger. In this interview, Steve talks about what social media tools he uses for personal branding, his opinion on Twitter and its future, strategies Gen-Y should use to stand out and more. Which social media tools do you rely on to build your personal brand? Just social media? The primary tools I use, in order of importance, are blogging, video sharing (YouTube, Viddler, etc.), and Twitter. I am mildly active on LinkedIn and Facebook. I am basically a strategic marketing guy. The problem is there are about six million of us out there begging to get hired. In order to separate myself from that crowd, I decided many years ago to regularly communicate with my target market via tools like newsletters, articles, speeches, audio, and video. My goal with these was to share my voice and my thinking to the exact right people as much as possible. As you say, Dan, I was building my own personal brand. The advent of social media was like a gift from heaven. Here was an opportunity to go beyond the traditional one-way communication to an interactive dialogue with my market. I started my blog, Two Hat Marketing, in September 2006 as a replacement for my printed newsletter. Ive eventually added videos and now Twitter, which gives me a great Mix. Each is different, but the combination really allows me to show off my personality and opinions. Do you think twitter is a fad that is losing steam, or will it be bigger than facebook? I dont think its an either/or situation. I just see them both as arrows in my quiver. For years, we marketers have relied on tools like direct mail, advertising, telemarketing, teleconferencing, trade shows, newsletters, and promotions to build our brands. Then the Internet hit and all of a sudden were given a myriad of new choices text-based email, html-based email, websites, landing pages, blogs, webinars, podcasts, and now social media. Theyre just more arrows for my quiver. As a marketer its my job to find out which ones (old and new) create the best combination for communicating with my prospects and clients. Will Twitter lose steam? Probably. We saw MySpaces growth hockey stick up a short time ago. Then Facebook came charging into the picture with a slightly different model. It blew by MySpace and became the media darling. The media gets bored easily, so when something unique came along (Twitter) and a few well-known celebrities jumped on the bandwagon, it hit the flash point. The question went beyond, What are doing right now, to How many followers can you get? Now spamming is pretty normal. I think well see most of the easily-bored celebrities drop out soon and, I hope, well figure out a way to control the spammers. But Twitter is a terrific tool. I really like the way it makes me think concisely and forces me to say something interesting or valuable. My followers tell me if Im accomplishing that. I dont think Twitter is the final stop, either. Something new will come along that goes a step farther. It always does. What strategies should Gen-Y use to build their personal brand and market themselves through twitter, facebook and other sites? Heres where I get to talk about on of my strategic marketing foundational concepts. Im an advocate that the purpose of marketing is to be on the mind of the prospect when the prospect is ready to buy. This simple statement actually says a lot. What does this have to do with personal branding? Everything. First, you must be very clear about who your prospect is. If youre answer is, Everybody needs my product/service! then my advice is dont quit your day job. Find your niche. Second, the reason you will be on their mind is because youve shared something with them that resonates. It joins the conversation going on in their mind and also clicks as being different than every other option available. The one thing we cannot control is timing. WHEN is the prospect going to be ready to buy? We dont know. But what we can do is be top of mind when that moment comes. I often ask my audiences, When a lightning bolt strikes your prospect on the head and he goes, Aha, I NEED that product/service! does he think of you FIRST? Does he think of you SECOND? Does he think of you AT ALL? Social media sites, like Twitter and Facebook allow you to share yo urself. You can tell stories. You can write OpEd pieces. You can talk about how youve solved problems for other clients. You can survey your prospects and learn whats keeping them up a night. You can get happy clients to spread the word about what a fantastic consultant/speaker/suppliers you are. All of these help build your brand, or even better, your myth. Tell us whats new, whats next, and whats important. What time is it? Seems like something new comes out every day now. Im not privy to any brand new tools at the moment, but I will share something I feel is really important. Obviously, your readers are concerned about their personal brands. As I mentioned above, I work hard to position myself as far away from my competition as possible. Its not enough to be a little bit different, or faster, or better. I firmly believe youve got to position yourself as delivering something that no one else can deliver. Youve got to work hard to OWN a position in the prospects mind that stands ALONE. In addition, that position must be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to copy. Clearly, this is difficult to do, but you must work hard to get there. I would also say that while you might be able to develop a particular product or service that is hard to copy. But the reality is, technology today is making easier and easier to copy. Most of the time, the way you separate yourself is through intangible differences. In my case, there are several obvious intangibles that make me different. For example, I have a set of Rules that all clients must comply with. You might argue these are easy to copy. They are not. I took ownership of this type of positioning many years ago and have made them a focal point in communications with my market. If anybody tries to copy them (and some people have), the market instantly knows they stole it from me. In every case so far, my competition has eventually dropped the imitation. I could go on with other examples, but I hope you get the point. Dont just look for ways to make your product or service better than the competition. Look for intangible ways to be perceived in the prospects minds HOW and WHY you are different. Is your work always serious fun? How do you achieve that? The stock answer is, Of course its always serious fun! But that would be a lie. Its mostly fun. You cant get away from the crap you dont like. All you can do is minimize it. My philosophy is that I built this business for ME. If Im not having fun most of the time, then whats the point? The rule here is: I take my clients and their problems very serious, but I dont take myself serious. However, one of the things my clients learn about me is its really difficult for me to be serious for a long time. As a result, regardless of the situation or who the client is, eventually I go off track. Im very irreverent and operate a no-spin zone. Not everybody understands or accepts this attitude, which is fine. I only want to work with people who dont mind someone who wants to kill their sacred cows. This makes it fun for me and, in the end, better for my clients. You may also notice, this is an important part of my personal branding. But I need your help. Would you vote for me? If you like this podcast, please vote at http://bit.ly/YourCareerAusPodAwardsOkay. So lets set your intentions for career success in 2019. Because were into the new year now and you know what? I dont know if this happens to you, but usually the first month of any new year sees so many of us making New Years resolutions. Did you make yours?Theres usually a huge annual pilgrimage back to the gym.On the 5th January I headed off to the gym with great intentions of getting back into dance and aerobic fitness because, as you know, years ago I was a fitness instructor. As the years have gone by, I have lost that fitness level but I really miss dancing, so I entered a ShBam class which was so much fun and it felt great, but I couldnt walk the next day as I overdid it. After many years of marathon running and high impact aerobics and plenty of overuse, I realize that I cant do this now. I need to take it easy and set a realistic fitness goal. So my fitness goal is to power walk for 20 to 30 minutes every morning instead, and so far, so good because I dont have any injuries from that. Now what about you? I hope your fitness goals are going well for the year, but you know, when it comes to resolutions I find they tend to fall by the wayside quite quickly . And so what Id rather do and I think might be helpful for you to is to focus on INTENTIONS instead. So have you thought about your intentions for 2019?As you now, Im a career coach and I work one on one with career transition clients to guide them towards career success, and I also deliver a number of career management and career transition group workshops, plus LinkedIn training in a corporate environment. Im happy to say that setting career goals as a firm trend every time a new year arrives, and research has found that 45 percent of us will be investing in upskilling this year for career success. And 37 percent plan to be more outspoken and take control of their ambitions at work. And 16 percent of us are committed to expanding upon our professional network. So is this what youre planning as well? Id like to suggest three intentions to help you progress in your career this year. What do you think? So lets. Lets start with intention number one.Intention Number One is your learni ng potential is your earning potential. According to research by Goodhabitz, the biggest career trend tip for 2019 is personal development. However only 10 percent of organizations globally are taking on full scale projects, what does this mean for you? It means that if your organization isnt able to provide you with the training that you really want, you have to take matters into your own hands. If you want to get stuff done, really the person to rely on is you. Okay? So how are you going to get stuff done? You need to take control of your own education. Do you want support to take control of your career? I think most of you probably do. The Career Academy Online is a free membership site where you will gain access to career resources and training your personal and professional development. Its free to join. Intention Number Two. Banish self limiting beliefs and trust yourself. You know that self limiting belief that sits on your shoulder telling you, oh, you cant do it, or you don t have the experience. Oh, youre too young or youre too old. You know all of that. Lets get rid of it. High self esteem and confidence is a key component of your success, so whether you are a man or a woman, a dip in your competence level can have dramatic effects on how youre perceived out there in the marketplace and what you achieve at work. Now Im on a mission to help you to grow your belief in your ability to handle lifes little and big challenges by assisting you to become resilient.Ive gone through so many tough things in life and some of you may already know that, you know, over over three year period I went through just about every one of lifes major challenges and stressors, including a country move, a divorce, financial concerns, having to find another job all around the same time period and my stress level was so high that I honestly didnt know how I would be able to handle it, but I learned to develop resilience. Despite the knock backs that I experienced, I thought, no, Im not going to let it beat me. Weve all, we all experienced knockbacks, and Ive had plenty in my life but its how we deal with those setbacks that form our character, setbacks are character building and every setback, look at it as an opportunity to develop resilience. To help you bounce back you can explore an online program that Ive created for you called How to Build Confidence in The Careers Academy Online. Intention Number Three is to build your network because it is your net worth. The people you know, the tribe you build around you who lift you up, are the people will help you to be successful in your career, and when people hear the word network, I know that word networking causes many of my clients to to cringe, but only initially. Networking is, and this is important to remember: building genuine relationships. Its not selling, its not pitching. Its the opportunity to get to know another person. Remember how good it feels to make a new friend. Do you remember the last ti me you made a new friend? You must develop mutual trust and respect for each other that always takes a bit of time, doesnt it? And then, and only then, may career and business opportunities arise out of that relationship. You know, we like to deal with people that we know, like, and trust. So when youre networking, just thinking about making a friend, making a connection, see if theres a bit of synergy between you. The primary focus when youre networking is to get to know the other person, the real person behind the facade of being a professional, a very important person, right? Were all genuine human beings, so why not? Lets get to know each other. Human being to human being. We all have the same worries, the same concerns. We all have self limiting beliefs. I know I certainly have them, but over the years, having developed resilience, if my self limiting beliefs start to rear their ugly heads, I just say stop it and get on with stuff. I read this book by Mel Robbins. I can highly recommend it. Its called The 5 Second Rule. Anytime youre feeling a little worried about something and you think, oh, Im going to be talking myself out of this very quickly, use the five second rule, go: five, four, three, two, one, and DO IT! You know, like five, four, three, two, one, blast off.So if you start to think, oh, Im wavering a little bit and I really want to go and introduce myself to someone, but the more you think about it, the less likely youre going to do it. Just say to yourself, five, four, three, two, one, and then just do it. I do this when Im lying in bed in the morning and Im supposed to go and have my power walk. I can easily say, Ill just hit the snooze button again, or rollover and have a little bit more sleep. But if I say to myself, five, four, three, two, one, and leap out of bed, its more likely that Im going to get that power walk over and done with. So far its working. So lets think about what were going to do when it comes to networking. Just want t o tell you about #LinkedInLocalSydney events.Theyre so popular. Ive been co hosting them with the lovely Jillian Bullock for over a year now. We hold them every month and at our events you can be the star of the show. However, the focus is on making authentic connections and a warm and friendly environment. We always tell people no schmoozing. No selling, no pitching, just come make some friends. So if you want to know when the next events are on, follow me on Linkedin because I always post when the next ones are on. Weve got one on the 30th of January and then after that therell be one on the 26th February. Expanding your network online. Its a wonderful thing, isnt it? Linkedins great. And then taking those online connections offline is what solidifies the relationship. So combining both is the perfect way to fulfill the third intention, which is your network is your net worth and youre going to expand your net network this year. Id love to hear how you so so post a comment and tel l me how youre going with it. Just a reminder about my Group Mastermind Sessions which will be held once a month. So anyone who registers to join the mastermind can send me their questions in advance and Ill answer them during our mastermind session. Carve Out the Time for Your Dream Job - Hallie Crawford
Carve Out the Time for Your Dream Job One of the first things I ask a client is, âOn a scale of one to ten, how committed are you to finding your dream job?â If the answer is anything less than a ten, we discuss why, and how we can move it up. The reason is that if you donât carve out the time to make this transition a priority in your life it will never happen. Iâve had several people say they were committed, start the process, and a month into it not make as much progress as they wanted. They allowed other things to get in the way: their current jobs, hobbies, family commitments. Having hobbies outside work is fabulous and important to creating a balanced life. Spending time with family is a good thing! However, when youâre in career transition, if you truly want to be successful, you must make some sacrifices to make the change. The transition doesnât last forever so ask yourself, âWhat do I need to say âNoâ to in order to say âYesâ to a career I love?â Often the time to work on a career change occurs in unusual ways. Lydia complained for weeks that she hadnât been able to devote the time to her career change and, as a result, was making little progress. âIâm too tired when I get home from work,â she told me. âAnd it just feels like one more obligation.â I knew that Lydia took the train to her office, so I suggested that she do the work on her morning commute when she was rested. This simple step of finding a way to fit in the time made a huge difference; and Lydia went from doing no work in our workbook to spending three hours a week on her dream career. âI canât believe I hadnât thought of this myself,â she said. âIt was so simple.â David also started with a bang, making great progress towards clarifying his career direction. He even had created a list of possible career ideas to research. But then he slowed down. One week he said, âWorkâs just been so busy.â I told him I understood, and then asked, âIf you are still in the same job in six months and havenât made progress towards another career, how will you feel?â âNot so good,â he replied. So we sat down, talked about his list of career ideas, and started to cut some of them. We created a schedule for his research. Preparing for a career change is like any other big project. It gets done in small, steady steps over time. Action step: Review your weekly calendar and decide when you can find time to work on your career change. Is it early Saturday morning for one hour before the kids get up? Or do you want to use some of your lunch hour away from the office to go to a coffee shop with your computer and work? Allot forty minutes on two different days this week for your career transition. Make it a recurring appointment. HallieCrawford.com was founded by certified career coach, speaker and author .
